Researching our visit to Angkor Wat I found the very cliche tourist thing to do was to come for the sunrise or sunset and not wanting to break with tradition I decided we'd start our visit during sunrise.
Angkor Wat is the largest religious monument in the world. It contains nearly 600 m of decorative bas-relief walls and is every bit as spectacular as we expected. The kids were amazingly good sports considering, maybe someday they'll realize what a cool experience this was!
I had read that sunrise could be pretty underwhelming, but we thought it was gorgeous. Our hotel packed us a sack breakfast so we ate and watched it get lighter and lighter over the temple.
Rayce got this picture of me looking at the temple, not bad right?!
We spent about three hours here at Angkor Wat and for the most part the kids did great, but, little stomachs started to grumble. The temperature rose. Our cool water supply started running low. Traveling with kids is definitely a good practice in moderation. Dan and I could of spent a lot more time here, but maybe someday we'll come back, in the meantime we're just really grateful for this experience. Angkor Wat is a place not to be missed.
